Food!!

Hey guys,

We heard that some of you eat only kosher food, but when we asked what is it all about we heard a few general rules (no cheeseburgers or pork) and then that there are different versions, so you actually never no...

So I tried Wikipedia - not much of a help, but you can find funny stuff there like: "Giraffes are technically kosher." or "Likewise, though swans are kosher in theory if kosher-slaughtered, there is no Jewish tradition of eating swans."- thank God!! Sorry, but we're not able to provide you with a giraffe steak either;) So if you eat kosher food, please write about yourself, so we can have a general idea and be better prepared:)

Anyway, I hope that you won't feel offended by the Wikipedia quotations. Getting kosher food is almost impossible in Poland, so I don't know much about it and while reading about it on the Net I was really wondering what is really important and what is not...

By the way, I wonder what funny things you can learn on Poland from Wikipedia?? Have you found something weird about country or our traditions? If yes, feel free to ask!!

Hello good people!!

Hi there all!!
I'm Amir, and in a fashion late I also want to thank Wiktor for inviting us to this blog. I'm 28, and I live in Petach-Tikva, a town 15km eastern to Tel-Aviv. I'm studying electronics engineering in my 4th year (supose to be the last one... :) ) and I really can't wait to meet you all in Warsaw. I really like dance-bars and pubs and enjoying life every day. Since I have also a big test a day before the flight, let us all wish a very good luck to Maayan in her test (and to me too). Finally I managed to send a post :)! It makes me feel happy because that's the first thing I managed to do today after getting out of my bed. It's cloudy and almost raining so I don't feel like doing anything (don't worry, it will stop before you come. Hopefully).
So now something about me. I'm studying culture studies. Also working for some NGOs. And I'm involved in Polish-Jewish dialogue (which means that I'm an animator of Polish-Jewish youth meetings).
I'm looking forward to seeing all of you. I think I know quite much about Polish Jews' culture, but contemporary Israel is a kind of undiscovered land for me. Hope meeting you will change it.

I'm Karol and in fact I'm not a girl:) Shira wasn't so sure about that so I write it at the beginning:)

Something about me... I listen to old good hard rock and metal. Sometimes a little bit jazz, but only more energetic one:) During my free time I try to use every possibility, when it is more than 5 degrees, to fire up my Harley, burn some fuel and annoy neighbours;)

Hi guys,
I'm Kaja - you can see my picture on Facebook - I have cake on my face;) But it not usual think for me to wear one - it was just a "lovely" surprise for my birthday. Well, actually it's an Indian tradition - me and my friends we're just back from exchange program in India and I did the same thing to one of them back in India, so he had to take revenge on me...
Anyways, being in India I fell in love with their music. I hope you're all going to bring a lot of Israeli music on your iPods, so that Polish group can learn more about it:)

Our fields of studies

Shalom, czesc :) I'm curious to know what are you studying. I'm doing International Relations and struggling with Economics (too much Maths in it;). As far as I know Maayan is studying psychology and special education, Karyn is medic, Corinne probably communication as Hanna's suggested, Hanna herself comunication too and Middle East studies(is it, Hanna:), somehow connected with International Relations, or more cultural-thing???), Adir sth about electronics(at least according to Daniel;), Nofar Political Science and Interantional Relations:). Among us there are financists, teachers, managers, bankers, journalist and some others-to-be;) So a very nice blend I think. Is there anyone in the Israeli group who is dealing with Economics or Business studies??? None the less, I'd like to ask you for sth but I'll explain it much later:)

9 kwietnia spektakl „Madama Butterfly” w Israeli Opera w Tel Awiwie oraz 10 kwietnia pokaz multimedialny na fasadzie budynku Urzędu Miasta Tel Awiw-Yafo oficjalnie rozpoczną Rok Polski w Izraelu.

Rok Polski w Izraelu, rozpoczynający się wiosną 2008 i kontynuowany w 2009 roku jest wspólną inicjatywą polskiego Ministerstwa Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego oraz Ministerstwa Spraw Zagranicznych. Program Roku Polskiego w Izraelu 2008/2009 tworzą wydarzenia z różnych dziedzin od kultury, nauki, przez turystykę, po gospodarkę. Celem Roku jest zbliżenie społeczeństw Polski i Izraela przez wzmocnienie kontaktów kulturalnych, a także gospodarczych, naukowych i turystycznych oraz zainicjowanie długoterminowej współpracy między instytucjami obu krajów.

Koordynatorem programu kulturalnego Roku jest Instytut Adama Mickiewicza, instytucja rządowa, której zadaniem jest promowanie polskiej kultury za granicą oraz inicjowanie międzynarodowej wymiany kulturalnej z Polską. Program współorganizowany jest przez Ambasadę Polską w Izraelu i Instytut Polski w Tel Awiwie.
Program Roku powstał we współpracy z polskimi i izraelskimi partnerami IAM. Jest on efektem wizyt ponad 100 kuratorów, managerów kultury, artystów i dziennikarzy, którzy w ciągu półtora roku przygotowań odwiedzili Polskę. Dzięki tym wizytom mogli na własne oczy przekonać się, że Polska to młody i dynamiczny kraj, ważny członek Unii Europejskiej. Kraj o dużym potencjale w dziedzinie edukacji, turystyki, nauki i technologii a przede wszystkim kultury współczesnej głęboko zakorzenionej w polskiej, wielokulturowej tradycji, której nieodłączną częścią jest współistnienie polsko-żydowskie.

W programie kulturalnym Roku znajdzie się blisko 70 wydarzeń kulturalnych. Oficjalnie Rok rozpocznie 9 kwietnia spektakl „Madama Butterfly” w Israeli Opera w Tel Awiwie oraz 10 kwietnia pokaz multimedialny na fasadzie budynku Urzędu Miasta Tel Awiw-Yafo.

„Madama Butterfly” w reż. Mariusza Trelińskiego jest koprodukcją z Israeli Opera. Pokaz na fasadzie budynku Rady Miasta Tel Awiw przygotowany został przez Barta Kresę z elementami filmów Zbigniewa Rybczyńskiego, zdobywcy Oscara za animację. Projekcja przygotowana przez Ambasadę Polską w Tel Awiwie uhonoruje 60. rocznicę powstania państwa Izrael.

W programie Roku znalazło się 9 projektów muzycznych, 15 teatralnych i tanecznych, 9 filmowych oraz 13 wystaw i performansów oraz 11 konferencji i 5 publikacji. Większość z nich to projekty przygotowane wspólnie z partnerami izraelskimi. Duża część programu to projekty adresowane do młodej publiczności i projekty dla dzieci oraz warsztaty dla młodych polskich i izraelskich twórców. Polska kultura silnie reprezentowana będzie na izraelskich festiwalach, w tym tych najważniejszych jak Festiwal Izraela w Jerozolimie, Wiosenny Festiwal Rishon LeZion, gdzie Polska będzie w tym roku gościem honorowym oraz jubileuszowej 10. edycji festiwalu Docaviv – jednego z najciekawszych festiwali filmów dokumentalnych na świecie.
